What an authorized-user tradeline is

A seasoned account holder adds you as an authorized user. The account's age, limit and payment history then appear on your file. You never get the card or any access to the account.

What it helps

Thin files with fewer than three accounts, short average account age, and high overall utilization. Those three are where we see real movement.

What it does not do

It does not remove a collection, a late payment or a charge-off, and lenders' manual underwriters can discount it. Anyone selling tradelines as a fix for negatives is selling the wrong thing.

How we handle it

We keep a current list of accounts by age, limit and reporting date. New buyers provide a copy of ID; some accounts also need an SSN copy because the bank requires it. Payment by bank deposit or wire. Call for the current list; it changes monthly.

Our honest recommendation

Run the audit first. If the file has negatives, fix those with repair and add a tradeline only once the file is clean.
